Description

The Cors-y-Gedol Hotel is a 5-storey building featuring a double-pile range under a shallow-pitched hipped slate roof with corbelled eaves. The left section has three projecting wooden bays with tripartite sash windows on the upper floors, complemented by plain pilasters and an entablature. The two bays on the right are two storeys high and have modern 30-pane windows on the ground floor. The left bay is three storeys tall and serves as a storeyed porch, supported by two octagonal wooden columns. The entrance is modern, consisting of a 4-part, part-glazed design. Above the two right-hand bays, each of the upper three storeys features three plain Victorian 4-pane sash windows with projecting cills and rusticated surrounds, with a similar window above the left bay. All bays have shallow hipped slate roofs and plain fascias between the ground and first floors.

The right section of the building is four storeys high and consists of three bays, flush with the previous section. It shares the same roof and upper window design. There are two projecting two-storey bays on the right, with the rightmost bay supported by octagonal columns on the ground floor. To the left, there is an entrance with a gallery above, which is supported by Doric columns. The gallery features turned balusters with a plain rail and fascia beneath. The entrance has a wide moulded architrave and a tripartite, multi-pane, glazed door. Above this entrance is a tripartite sash window with a moulded pediment and entablature, supported by four scrolled brackets. To the right of each of the two bays, there is an entrance with a modern part-glazed door; the right entrance is larger and includes a wooden doorcase with a 4-pane fanlight above.

Inside, there is a large fireplace in the ground-floor left section, featuring a flat-arched lintel. A reset foundation plaque above the fireplace is inscribed: "Foundation stone was laid by Anne wife of the proprietor John Robert Davies, Oct. 25 1869."
