Description

This is a small Gothic railway bridge built with coursed rubble and freestone dressings, featuring a crenellated and corbelled parapet over a chamfered pointed arch that includes a plain coat of arms. The bridge is flanked by polygonal turrets that have ramped bases, freestone caps, and timber finials, with a brick vaulted underside. There is modern boarding above the parapet, but it likely includes contemporary crenellated boarding at both ends, where the walls of the viaduct gently sweep forward and ramp down to meet the ends of the screen walls at the entrance. This design is mirrored on the opposite side, where the walls end in tapered polygonal piers.
