Description
The cowhouse at Ysgubor-fawr is a simple rectangular building constructed from rubble stonework on boulder footings, with the walls splayed out at the base. Originally, the roof was made of slate or straw, but it has since been replaced with corrugated iron. There is a gable entrance raised on a stone-revetted ramp at the eastern end, featuring a small vent opening above it, and a secondary entrance leading into the stock yard at the western end. On the northern side, there is a two-bay corrugated iron lean-to feed store. The western end has one opening with a raised sill and a later window added above.
Inside, the cowhouse has four roof bays supported by principal rafter and tie trusses. The floor is cobbled, with a central walkway that is kerbed and slightly lowered. On one side, there are four short timber stall divisions, and on the northern side, there is a stone slab. At the western end, there are two calf pens, each equipped with a manger, with the partitions supported by an additional standing stone.
