Description
1 - 7 Glandwr Terrace is a terrace of seven houses built in brick, featuring a combination of buff, brown, and blue bricks arranged in Flemish bond. The gable ends and rear are rendered, with raised quoins at both ends. The slate roof includes large pane sash windows, although all windows in No 2 have been replaced with uPVC, and the attic window in No 7 has also been replaced with uPVC. The houses have gabled dormers and brick stacks.
The terrace consists of three storeys, with each house having a single frontage. The entrance door is located to the left, with a slightly projecting window bay to the right. Each house features four-panel doors, with No 6 having a part-glazed door, and a semi-circular head with a plain fanlight. There are small four-pane sash windows and decorative bargeboards with finials on the dormers. The first floor has canted oriel windows with fixed side lights and an opening central light, topped with sloping lead canopies and plain aprons. The ground floor has large four-pane sash windows, except for No 7, which features a bay window. Rooflights are present on all houses except Nos 2 and 7. The rear elevation includes two-storey single-width extensions and some small-pane sash windows, with a few original windows remaining.
The terrace, including the rear outbuildings, is enclosed by a rubble wall at the rear. Another rubble wall with an access gate and steps separates the terrace (along with the long front garden plots) from Garth Road, while a sea wall is located to the east. There is a shared path in front of the terrace, with low-walled gardens immediately in front of each house and long garden plots beyond.
Only No 4 was inspected, but its original layout and fittings likely reflect those of the other houses in the terrace. It has a double pile depth with a stair to the left and retains some original features, including a large slate fireplace in the front room on the ground floor, a panelled door in the entrance lobby, timber floors, and cornices. Other houses in the terrace may also retain similar layouts and fittings of interest.
