Description
The building at Bodfan consists of a cowhouse, barn, and cart shelter, constructed from irregularly coursed and dressed galleted rubblestone, with squared slabs used for the piers of the cart shelter. The roofs are made of grouted and graded slate for the barn and cart shelter, while the cowhouse has been replaced with tin sheeting. This long structure is aligned roughly east-west, featuring a taller barn in the center, a cowhouse at the east end, and a cart shelter on the west.
The cowhouse has three doors and includes stone cross-walls along with sawn and bolted A-frame trusses. The principal rafters of these trusses are embedded in the external walls instead of rising from their tops. The barn is divided into five short bays and also features A-frame trusses, with two being the original pegged type and two being sawn and bolted replacements. There is lime torching between the rafters, and a hay rack and trough are located on the back wall, which also extends into the back wall of the cart shelter. The west gable end of the barn has three tiers of splayed ventilation slits. The cart shelter includes sawn A-frame trusses and a stone cross wall with timber boarding above.
