Description
The school rooms adjacent to the Church of St Michael are a single-storey complex built in 1849. The main structure is a rectangular range with a wing extending at right angles to the west and a smaller parallel range to the east, connected by a linking block. The building is constructed from local rubble masonry with gritstone dressings, featuring a slate pitched roof with stone copings and short rubble gable stacks on both the main and parallel ranges.
The windows are slightly recessed and consist of small-paned casements. The gable walls of the main block and the west wing have large windows with slate lintels. Above the south window, in the gable apex, there is a slate sundial. The main entrance is through double doors located in the south wall of the linking block, with an additional doorway at the north end of the east wall.
Inside, the main block and west wing create one large room, while a smaller room in the east range features a stone in the west wall that indicates the date 1849. The walls are plastered and whitewashed, and the ceiling is finished with plaster panels. The floors are wooden.
