Description
The building is a two-storey stable and smithy range, dating from the 18th century, located to the northwest of Tre-Ddafydd-uchaf, also known as Treddafydd-fawr. It consists of two units connected by a central external staircase leading to the first floor from the south. There are later additions to the rear, creating a U-shaped complex. The walls are made of rubble, and the roof is covered with small slates that are grouted, featuring roughly dressed copings.
The stable on the right (east) has a central door with a rough stone lintel, flanked by small squared-headed windows, and two windows on the first floor. There is a nine-pane fixed light on the east gable at the first floor. The smithy and cartshed are located to the left (west); they feature two narrow doors on the right with crude projecting stone lintels, and a small four-pane window to the left of each door. There is a wide cart door on the extreme left, topped with a slate lintel, and two small rectangular windows on the first floor with wooden lintels. A rubble gable end chimney is present on the rear (north) pitch.
At the rear (north) of the west end of the smithy block, there is a stable with a tackroom added, which has rubble walls and a slate roof. The main elevation faces west, with a lofted tackroom to the right (north) and a three-bay stable to the left (south). This elevation features one door and one window, both with segmental brick heads. The east elevation has two widened doors with wooden lintels. There is a boiling house attached to the rear (north) of the 18th-century stable, which also has rubble walls and a grouted slate roof, with an end stack on the north gable. A door is located on the east side, with a window to the right, leading into an enclosed garden to the north of the house.
Inside, the smithy retains a fireplace with a curved timber beam and A-frame roof trusses with shaped collars.
