Description
The sculpture of a lion, located on the east side of the northern entrance to Britannia Bridge, is a large representation of a lion couchant, measuring 25 feet 6 inches (7.77 meters) long and 12 feet 8 inches (3.86 meters) high. It is carved in a bold Egyptian style and constructed from 11 pieces of Penmon limestone. The lion faces south and rests on an ashlar limestone plinth, which is placed on top of a plinth made of rock-faced sandstone.
