Description
Hen Ysgol and the adjoining schoolhouse is an early 19th century school building constructed from mortared uncoursed rubble, featuring large quoin stones. It has a low-pitched slate roof made of small slates, with rendered rectangular stacks that have capping. The school has slightly recessed 30-paned sash windows and an entrance accessed through a gabled porch. The doorway is flanked by unequal sash windows with 6 panes each. Above the entrance is a slate plaque that reads: "This building was restored in the year 1901 In Memory of Her Most Gracious Majesty Queen Victoria who visited Anglesea with her mother the Duchess of Kent in the year 1832." To the left of the porch is another slate plaque stating: "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Kent Munificently contributed £50 towards the erection of this schoolhouse August 1832."
The schoolhouse features a doorway on the front elevation, offset to the left, with replacement casement windows to the right. There is a rear door also offset to the left, with a first-floor window directly above it. All ground floor openings have slate lintels, and the first-floor windows are set directly under the eaves. The interior was not inspected during the survey.
