Description

Capel Lligwy is a church with a chancel and nave that are structurally undivided, featuring a west gable bellcote and a south chapel that projects as a gabled wing to the east. The walls are made of rubble masonry, which changes in character at about 1.5 meters high, indicating 14th-century work. The south doorway dates from the 12th century, with square jambs and a plain round arch that has a rough chamfered impost. The east wall shows evidence of a blocked opening approximately 2 meters wide, while the north wall has no openings. The south wall contains the remains of a window reveal, likely from the 14th century. The west gable features 14th-century gable copings and a single bellcote with a pointed opening. The south chapel has blocked windows, and the south window retains the remains of a 4-centred arch, with the east and west windows only visible from the interior.

Beneath the south chapel is a vault measuring about 2.5 square meters, accessed by a flight of stone steps and covered with flat stone slabs supported by continuous corbelling. The east and west windows are only visible from inside the chapel, and the east and west walls also contain small recesses.
