Description
Cae Mawr is a 2-storey farmhouse featuring a 2-window range with a central entrance that is slightly offset to the left. The modern door is flanked by 12-pane sash windows, while the right-hand ground floor window has been enlarged to a 2-light modern casement. The first-floor windows are positioned directly below the eaves. The building is constructed of local rubble masonry and is limewashed, topped with a roof of small old slates that are grouted, along with red clay ridge tiles and stone coping. The gable stacks are rendered, with dripstones and coping; the right (southwest) stack is larger and squarer. All windows are fitted with slate sills. At the rear, there is scattered fenestration, including a ground floor 3-pane metal framed casement on the left and a brick-blocked round-headed opening on the right. Between these is a 2-pane stair window, and the first floor features a single 4-pane horned sash window offset to the left.
The entrance leads into a hallway with the principal rooms located on either side and the kitchen at the rear. The interior retains rough hewn beams and a rough hewn and cambered bressumer in the inglenook on the right, which is inscribed with the initials H. W. (the former tenant) and RR X III.
