Description

This is a single-story terrace of two labourers' cottages, originally built as a group of four in 1907, situated within a U-shaped plan with rear service extensions. They are constructed in an Arts and Crafts style. The walls are harled with a grid pattern of timber framing, incorporating single, bipartite, and tripartite windows. The cottages feature bargeboarded doors.

The west-facing (entrance) elevation has six recessed bays, with the four central bays slightly advanced. Two tripartite windows are centrally placed, alongside a single window to the right and left. Doors are located on the inner returns. Three advanced bays form wings flanking the central section, with the left-hand wing displaying timber framing inscribed with the initials "HMC 1907". Each wing has a bipartite window flanked by single windows, and a door in the re-entrant angles.

The side elevations consist of three bays, showcasing a small window centrally placed, flanked by a bipartite window on either side.

The rear elevation features an advanced bay centrally placed, with a door to the right and a window to the left. Three recessed bays flank this, each containing a small central window bordered by bipartite windows. Advanced service blocks are situated at the outer bays, alongside modern flat-roofed extensions.

The windows are timber multi-pane casements, nearly flush with the wall. The roof is covered in grey/green slate, with jerkin-headed pavilions and red ridge tiles, and rendered stacks.

The initials "HMC" refer to Henry Moubray Cadell of Grange, who commissioned the cottages on his estate. A note regarding the construction cost – $740 – is also a feature.
