Description

Nw Cottage is part of a small, 1907 terrace of two (originally four) labourers' cottages built in the Arts and Crafts style. The terrace is arranged in a U-shape, with service extensions to the rear. The cottages are harled, with a timber frame grid pattern, and incorporate single, bipartite, and tripartite windows. They feature bargeboarded and boarded doors.

The west-facing (entrance) elevation has six recessed bays, with the four central bays slightly advanced. Two tripartite windows are centrally positioned, flanked by single windows to the right and left. Doors are located on both inner returns. Three advanced bays form wings flanking the central section; the left wing's timber framing is inscribed with “HMC 1907”. Each wing has a bipartite window flanked by single windows, and a door is set into the return angles.

The side elevations have three bays, with a small window centrally positioned and a bipartite window on either side. The rear elevation features an advanced bay in the centre, with a door to the right and a window to the left, and three recessed bays flanking it. Each recessed bay has a small window flanked by bipartite windows. Advanced service blocks are present on the outer bays, with modern flat-roofed extensions now adjoining them.

The windows are timber multi-pane casements, set almost flush with the wall plane. The roof is grey/green slate, with jerkin-headed pavilions and red ridge tiles. Rendered stacks are also present.

The initials "HMC" refer to Henry Moubray Cadell of Grange, who commissioned the cottages on his estate. An inscription indicates the original build cost was $740.
