Description

Mid 19th century. Group composed of 3-storey rectangular-plan blocks (malting barn and store) flanking square-plan kiln; terrace of cottages to W. Cream sandstone and whinstone rubble, droved ashlar dressings.

MALTING BARN, STORE AND KILN: kiln with pyramidal roof and modern ventilator at apex; store to left (E) with larger barn to right, gabled facade to N, corbelled to dressed quoins at 1st floor, loading door. Asymmetrical arrangement of doors and windows.

INTERIOR: gutted.

Grey slate roofs, ashlar coped skews, skewputts.

COTTAGES: single storey over basement. Whinstone rubble with droved and ashlar cream sandstone dressings. Lintel course, cornice to N. Asymmetrical arrangement of doors and windows.

Slate roof (now almost totally stripped), tall red brick stacks with stack to centre rendered, ashlar coped skews.
