Description
The Library Tea Room in Balquhidder is a single-storey, three-bay building constructed in the later 19th century. Originally a reading room or library, it is now used as a tea room. The structure is made from timber on a stone base, topped with a red tile roof and featuring a shouldered brick chimney stack. The front of the building has a central gabled porch, flanked by large windows with moulded timber margins. There are three steps leading up to the porch.
Inside, the tea room is fitted out to a very high standard, especially considering its modest exterior. The standout feature is the beautifully crafted timber braced-arch ceiling, which includes turned braces and kingposts. Additionally, there is a roll-moulded chimneypiece with green tile insets, flanked by recessed arched bookcases. The walls of the room are covered with tongue and groove panelling, and the front door is timber panelled with a border-glazed upper section.
