Description

Kilmaronock Manse is a house dating from 1804, with significant modern alterations. It is a two-storey, three-bay, rectangular building with a rear wing forming an L-plan. The house is rendered with painted ashlar margins and dressings, and features chamfered arrises and quoin strips.

The south elevation has a narrow, corniced door at the centre, with a panelled door and radiating fanlight. Flanking this are windows, symmetrically arranged at the first floor, directly under the eaves. The west elevation shows a gable with two windows at ground level, a window to the left at the first floor, and a narrow window in the gablehead, alongside a lower wing to the left. The east elevation exhibits the L-plan layout, with a door at ground level, set off-centre to the left, windows at ground and first floor to the outer left, and a window to the outer right at the first floor.

The windows are modern uPVC top hopper windows and the roof is tiled, with rendered apex stacks finished with sandstone coping and octagonal cans.

The interior is simple, though some alterations have been made.

Associated outbuildings form a U-plan range, comprising two rectangular-plan gabled wings linked by a lean-to block. These are constructed in rubble with harl pointing, and have ashlar coping. The north elevation showcases remnants of the original entrance to the courtyard, with flanking gables. One gable has a blocked window at ground level, a blind cruciform arrowslit in the gablehead, and a single window on the left return. The other gable has a door at ground level on the left, a barred window at the centre, a blind arrowslit in the gablehead, a barred window on the left of the right return, and two doors symmetrically disposed on the right. The south elevation reveals gables to the outer left and right, and a wall with an opening to the right of centre. A window is located in the gablehead of the outer right gable.

The courtyard has various openings, some of which have been enlarged; it features a grey slate roof and red sandstone ashlar skews.

Adjacent to the outbuildings, to the north, is a rectangular-plan bothy with two boarded doors and a letterbox fanlight, covered by a grey slate roof.

A portion of a rubble boundary wall with semi-circular coping remains to the west.

Notes indicate that the manse would be improved by replacing the modern slate roof and windows with traditional materials. The adjacent parish church is a separate listed building. Historical mapping from 1864 provides further context.
