Description

The Girder Bridge at Crathie, part of the Balmoral Estates, was designed by the engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel and built between 1856 and 1858 by ironfounder R Brotherhood from Chippenham, Wiltshire. This single span bridge features a wrought iron plate girder construction, with regularly pierced iron-plate parapets and distinctive visible riveting. The bridge is supported by coursed rock-faced granite abutments, which are topped with square granite piers, and it has curved granite approach walls.
