Description
The Bridge of Newe, dated 1858, was reconstructed and altered between 1992 and 1993. It was engineered by John Willet, with James Abernethy & Co as contractors, and the alterations were carried out by Grampian Regional Council. The bridge features two small segmental stone-built floodwater arches on either side of a large central span, which is supported by four iron arches. The structure is made of roughly dressed bullfaced masonry and includes a cast iron and interlace metalwork parapet. Each parapet has a commemorative plaque displaying the family crest and the inscription: "Erected by Sir Charles Forbes, Baronet, of Newe & Edinglassie, 1858, from a bequest by his Grand-Uncle, John Forbes, Esquire, of Newe."
