Description
The Auld Kirk, a former Free Church built in 1861, is a simple rectangular building featuring a four-bay aisless nave. It has a gable bellcote, pointed arch openings, and a louvered oculus. The church is part of a small group that includes a former manse, ancillary buildings such as a stable, coach house, and Sunday school, as well as a walled garden. The structure is constructed of ashlar stone with harled sides and rear, and it features voussoirs and chamfered reveals.
The south elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a symmetrical gabled design. It includes a boarded timber door at the center with a louvered oculus above, flanked by tall lancet windows and a stone bellcote at the gablehead. Both the east and west elevations have four tall lancets each. The north elevation is also gabled and features two tall lancets, a small pitch-roofed porch on the outer left, and a low timber structure on the right.
The windows are fitted with leaded diamond pattern glazing, and the roof is covered with grey slates. There is a polygonal chimney stack at the north gablehead and ashlar-coped skews with moulded skewputts.
The boundary walls surrounding the property are made of coped rubble, with a coped, square-section ashlar end pier located at the southeast corner.
