Description

This is a large, rectangular walled garden, likely dating from the early 19th century, although it incorporates earlier fabric and may have originally served as the garden for Glenbuchat Castle. The garden sits between Castle Lodge and Glenbuchat Castle. It is enclosed by high, coped rubble walls, with a significant portion of the wall preceding the construction of Castle Lodge in 1826.

The western side includes a pair of square ashlar gatepiers topped with ball finials, which frame a decorative ironwork pedestrian gate. Two rubble ancillary buildings with piend roofs are located to the west of the garden, and now have modern corrugated roof coverings.

The walled garden is located immediately southwest of the well-preserved 1590 Glenbuchat Castle and is described as a fine enclosure created by utilising earlier walls and garden area. The addition of the two piend-roofed buildings and the elegant gateway, probably in the early 19th century, completed the enclosure facing Castle Lodge.
