Description
Glenkindie House is an impressive U-plan building with a courtyard open to the south. It features conical-roofed towers at the southwest and southeast corners. The eastern wing is two stories with an attic and is likely from the 16th century, although it was recast around 1741, as indicated by the inscription "ALCD 1741" on the door and "ALCD" at the skewput. This wing has quoined surrounds to the windows and a fine interior, which includes an elaborate scale and a platt stone stair with squat Ionic columns supporting heavy friezeless entablatures. The matching western wing has an inscription from 1787, though it may be of an earlier date. The northern parts of the house were added in 1900 and consist of two stories with a three-story tower, designed in the style of Sydney Mitchell, replacing a plain two-story, three-window central portion from 1785.
