Description
Cambus Cottage, built in 1876, is a small, charming single-storey building with a rectangular plan, featuring canted angles and a polygonal roof on the southwest and northwest sides. It is situated on the former Aboyne to Ballater Railway and has been converted for accommodation. The base course is rendered, while the rest of the structure is covered in vertical weatherboarding. The wide central tripartite windows have corniced frames.
The southwest elevation, which faces the former railway line, is symmetrical with three bays and includes a central replacement door. The northeast elevation, which faces a rise in land towards the road, is blank.
The windows are timber sash and case with multi-pane glazing patterns over plate glass. The roof is swept with overhanging eaves, covered in grey slates adorned with decorative red ridge tiles and finials, as well as traditional rooflights on the northeast side. There is a single masonry stack and cast iron rainwater goods with decorative fixings.
