Description
The Wade Bridge, built between 1731 and 1732, is a single-span humpback bridge constructed of roughly dressed rubble stone. It features a segmental rubble arch and a parapet. Some later harl pointing has been applied to the stonework. The approximate span of the bridge is 27 feet. The course of the burn has been altered due to the construction of modern drainage canals. The bridge was built as part of General Wade's military roads in Scotland, as described in William Taylor's 1976 publication, The Military Roads in Scotland. It is located in Glen Shirra, crossing the Dry Burn, within the Cairngorms National Park.
