Description
This is a twin arched rubble bridge built between 1731 and 1732 as part of General Wade's military road network, connecting Dalwhinnie and Laggan to Fort Augustus via the Corrieyairack Pass. The bridge spans the River Spey, springing from a rocky outcrop in the river’s centre. The bridge's overall length is 180 feet, with each arch measuring 45 feet in span. The bridge is constructed of rubble with tooled rubble arch rings and a parapet cope. Heavy rubble buttresses are present on both sides, and iron repair braces reinforce the arches. Originally named St George's Bridge by General Wade, this name is now rarely used. The bridge was formerly designated a scheduled monument, listed in 1971 and removed from the listing in 2016.
