Description
Tower Folly in Boquhan is a tower folly dating from the late 18th or early 19th century. It features a two-stage, octagonal plan and is set on a stepped octagonal base. The structure is built from coursed red sandstone with pale sandstone ashlar dressings. It has a moulded cornice at the first floor, a band-course below a further cornice at the eaves level, and a blocking course above. The doorway is adorned with a moulded cornice and a blank moulded panel above it. There are windows on the front and side elevations at the upper stage, although the side windows are currently blocked as of 2011. Inside, there is evidence of turnpike stair construction. The tower is currently roofless.
