Description
Kings Park and its boundary wall at Stirling Castle date from the 16th and 17th centuries, with later alterations and repairs. The wall is built of rubble and stands approximately 6 feet high, starting at the castle and running along the southern perimeter of King's Park. It remains mostly intact, except where a motorway has intersected it. A section from the lodge to Laurelhill has been reduced to a height of 3 feet 6 inches, ending at the northeast corner of the Laurelhill property. Inside the wall is the King's Knot, likely established around 1627-1628 as royal gardens. This features an octagonal, stepped mound that rises to about 9 feet high and measures 22 feet across at the top, situated within a double-ditched enclosure that measures 420 feet by 425 feet overall.
