Blairquhosh Byewash (Former Glasgow Corporation Water Works)

Blairquhosh Byewash, formerly part of the Glasgow Corporation Water Works, was designed by John F Bateman in 1856. It features a roughly rectangular and symmetrical masonry enclosure situated on a sloping site, with walls that step down the hillside. The eastern end has a bowed projection, and there are masonry retaining walls leading to the outflow channel on the western side. The outer face is made of bull-faced snecked red sandstone, while the inner face is polished ashlar, topped with rounded copes.

Inside, there is a central cast-iron trough that carries a conduit between arched openings, which are accentuated by prominent voussoirs. Shallow steps are located on each side of the trough, and there is an entrance gate above the northern arch. The masonry structure is designed to allow a burn to flow underneath the conduit at right angles.
