Description

The Pavilion at Bonnington Park, dated 1708, is a two-storey, three-bay classical viewing pavilion with a square plan, located on a high cliff overlooking Corra Linn. It underwent alterations around 1790 to 1820 and again in 1926. The entrance is on the east side, above a rusticated basement, and there is a doorway on the west side that features a 20th-century iron balcony. The principal elevation is finished in polished ashlar, while the side and rear elevations are made of local sandstone rubble, originally harled. The building has a base plinth, a string course, and a moulded eaves cornice, with rusticated quoins. The principal elevation features bolection-moulded, corniced, shouldered door and window architraves, while the other elevations have tabbed margins.

On the east elevation, the central doorway is flanked by windows, and there is a carved frieze above the doorway inscribed with "MDCCVIII." The basement has two blocked window openings with false-arched lintels, one of which is partially obscured by steps that now rise from the south and are positioned against the front elevation, which originally rose to the centre from the east.

Inside, there is a bolection-moulded fireplace located in the southwest corner.
