Description
2 Broomgate in Lanark is a traditional burgh building that is predominantly from the late 18th century but includes some earlier elements. It has four bays and three storeys, plus an attic, and features a wide round-arched pend that leads to No. 6, providing access to the Wide Close vennel. The ground floor contains two later shop units, while the upper floors are used for residential purposes.
The main elevation, which faces Bloomgate on Lanark High Street, is painted and rendered, showcasing small window openings with raised margins and timber sash and case windows. The pitched slate roof includes two canted dormers on the front pitch, along with later brick and rendered chimneys at the end gables. At the rear, a two-storey range on Wide Close is attached to No. 4 (No. 2 Wide Close), and there is a single and two-storey mono-pitched range that connects to the rear of No. 6.
