Garage Cottage, Symington House

Garage Cottage, designed by A N Prentice around 1915, is a single-storey and attic structure with a rectangular plan, finished in grey harling. The main section features two large entrances, each with double boarded wooden doors. To the left, there is a projecting semi-circular stair tower topped with a conical slated roof, providing access to the attic, which is illuminated by a single flat-roofed dormer at the front that breaks the eaves and contains a tripartite casement window. At the rear, there are two identical dormers. The right gable has a prominent chimney stack with leaded shoulders and stone moulded copes, which projects slightly from the gable and is flanked by bipartite casement windows. The lower part of this gable is obscured by a modern lean-to timber shed. There is a second chimney stack on the transverse wall to the right of the stair tower. To the left of the stair tower, there is a lower wing that features a garage opening with a sliding boarded wooden door. The attic in this wing is lit by a dormer similar to those on the main block, but set at an angle on the roof. A single-flue chimney stack on the gable mirrors those on the main range, and there is a small bipartite window on the left gable. The roof is covered with light grey slates and has stone copes.
