Description
84-86 High Street in Ayr is a four-storey, two-bay baronial tenement built in 1883 by John Baird II. The building features twin crowstep gables and has a shop on the ground floor. It is constructed from coursed and squared grey sandstone. The shop front has a cornice, and there is a cill course at the second floor. The windows have moulded openings, and the gables display square panels, with a pierced circular pinnacle on the right gable only.
On the west entrance elevation, there is a timber door with a large square fanlight at the center of the ground floor, along with recessed two-leaf doors to the outer left. To the right, there is a modern shopfront, and a glazed entrance door to the left with a shop window to the right. The upper floors have regular fenestration, with the first and second floor windows set in slightly advanced bays, and two small slit windows at the center of each floor. A corbel table is present between the second and third floors.
The upper floors feature 12-pane timber sash and case glazing, and the roof is covered with grey slate. The interior was not seen in 1998.
