Description

The Town House on Burns Street in Tarbolton was built in 1832 and is connected to an early 19th-century former house, now part of the same building.

The Town House is a two-storey structure with a piend roof and has three bays. It features a stone forestair on the north side. The exterior is made of squared, coursed sandstone with raised sandstone ashlar dressings on the principal west elevation, which includes an eaves course. The front door is located to the left of the main elevation, with two ground-floor windows that are unevenly placed beside a former segmental-arched opening that has been filled in. The first floor has three evenly spaced windows, with a date panel beneath the central cill. The rear east elevation has three small, evenly spaced openings on the first floor.

The adjoining building is also two-storey with three bays and has a gabled roof. It features a 20th-century garage entrance on the south side and a later blocked-in brick forestair at the rear. The principal elevation is symmetrical, with a central flat-arched doorway. This section is constructed of squared, coursed red sandstone with raised red sandstone ashlar dressings on the principal west elevation, while the side elevation is whitewashed. It also has an eaves course.

Both buildings predominantly feature 8-pane glazing in fixed timber windows, ashlar-coped skews, squat ashlar stacks, and a grey slate roof.
