Description
The James Campbell Mausoleum, designed by William Henry Playfair in 1822, is a single bay, square-plan, open-roofed structure built in the Doric style. It is constructed from coursed sandstone ashlar and features a plinth made up of three stone steps. The mausoleum has a deep entablature with a triglyph frieze, supported by two pairs of Doric columns on each side. There is an architraved doorway with an iron gate on the east, north, and south elevations, while the west elevation is blank. Inside, the floor is stone flagged, and there is a grey granite tombstone on a sandstone plinth against the west wall.
