Description
Girvan High School, located at 15 Henrietta Street in Girvan, was built in stages and by the mid-19th century had developed into a T-plan school. It features crow-stepped gables and an open belfry above the gable facing the street, which has a deeply projecting cap. The re-entrant angle was later filled by another crow-stepped range. A porch that overlaps the gables likely dates from the late 19th century and includes decorative iron finials. The rear wing is not original and has undergone significant alterations. The building is constructed of rubble and is dry-dashed on the street side, with ashlar margins. The windows are small-paned sashes, and there is a three-light window in the main gable. The roofs are slate and include louvred triangular ventilators. The property is enclosed by a boundary wall with gatepiers and modern iron railings.
