Prestwick Town Station Including Waiting Room

Prestwick Town Station, including the waiting room, was built in 1903. It is a long, single-storey building with nine bays and features a gabled entrance located to the centre right, which is supported by timber brackets and flanked by slender side lights. On either side of the entrance, there are tripartite windows, with a further tripartite window, a door, and a four-part small window to the right, and a combination of bipartite, quadripartite, and bipartite windows to the left. The base course is made of squared and snecked bull-faced red sandstone, while the upper walls have a harled finish with raised quoins and painted tabbed window surrounds. The building has bracketted eaves and bargeboarded gables.

On the west (trackside) elevation, there is timber matchboarding with a dado and five doorways, one of which leads to the waiting room and is arched. A glazed canopy supported by cast-iron brackets with floral detail in the spandrels is also present, along with a circular station clock.

The windows are timber sash and case with small-pane glazing in the upper sashes. The roof is covered with grey graded slates and features catslide roof vents and terracotta ridge tiles. Cast-iron rainwater goods are installed, and the chimneystacks have been removed.

The interior was partially seen in 2004 and has been modernised. The waiting room features timber boarding and a glazed canopy supported by cast-iron brackets with decorative spandrels. The trackside glazing is later, while the other glazing matches that of the main building. The roof is slated.
