Description
The Dairy Research Department at Auchincruive Estate is a building designed by Alex Mair around 1931, with a rear extension added by Cowie Torry & Partners in 1986. It is a symmetrical, two-storey structure with a piend roof, featuring a classical style. The central entrance bay is advanced and includes a projecting corniced doorpiece with an inscribed tablet. The flanking bays contain two sets of paired windows, with the first-floor windows being smaller. The gables have three bays, and the building has a red brick base course, red tiled cills, and broad overhanging eaves that are mutulated at the entrance bay. The exterior is rendered.
On the north (rear) elevation, there are eight bays with flanking outer bays. The right side has a single-storey wing with a blind arch, while the left side features an elevated single-storey long extension with a brick course, regular fenestration, and a piended slate roof with broad eaves. The windows are small-pane casements made of metal, and the building has cast-iron rainwater goods with decorative hoppers. The roof is covered with grey graded slates. The interior was not seen in 2004.
