Description
East Cairn Hill Cottage (East) is a later 18th century single-storey cottage situated immediately adjoining Souter Johnnie’s Cottage. The cottages meet at the angle of the main road. The construction is of coursed rubble walls with freestone dressings, featuring skew gables, slate roofs (though originally thatched) and decorative moulded skewputs and eaves cornices. There are also corner pilaster strips. Most of the door and window openings facing the road have been blocked. The cottage shares a similar architectural character with Souter Johnnie’s Cottage, and the two were likely built as a group around 1786. The statutory address of the cottages is East Cairn Hill.
