Sumburgh Lighthouse Store, Grutness

Sumburgh Lighthouse Store, built around 1820, is a single-storey, three-bay structure with a flat roof and a rectangular shape. The walls are made of squared rubble, featuring polished and droved ashlar dressings and details. It has a base course and an eaves cornice, with openings that have margins. The central entrance consists of a vertically-boarded timber door, flanked by windows with vertically-boarded timber shutters. The side elevations have wallhead stacks, which have square bases that rise to octagonal shafts topped with corniced copes.

Surrounding the store is a boundary wall made of random rubble, with droved ashlar gatepiers that have pyramidal caps located at the west. The north pier has the distance to the lighthouse inscribed on its cap, and there is a wrought-iron gate. Additional stugged stone gatepiers with pyramidal caps are situated to the south.
