Manse, Burra Parish Church, West Burra

Burra Parish Church in West Burra is a former United Presbyterian church and manse built in 1867, with later additions. The building features a single-storey structure arranged in a six-bay range, with three bays for the church at the northern end and a wing that projects to the east from the rear of the manse. The walls are harl-pointed with stugged sandstone dressings.

The west elevation is asymmetrical, showcasing a 12-pane timber fixed-light window in the church section to the left of the centre. To the right of the centre, there is the entrance door of the manse, flanked by two 12-pane timber sash and case windows.

On the north gable, there is a modern gabled addition that projects outward. At the apex of the principal gable, a gabled ashlar bellcote features a fleur-de-lys finial and a pointed-arched opening that houses a bell.

The east (rear) elevation displays a gabled wing that advances at the outer left, with a 4-pane timber sash and case window in the re-entrant section to the right, and a 12-pane timber fixed-light window for the church on the right side.

The south gable has its ground floor obscured by a later lean-to wing, but it includes a single 4-pane sash window offset to the right in the gablehead.

The roof is modern, made of grey slate with concrete skew-copes. The manse has stugged sandstone apex stacks with stone copes and circular cans, while the east wing features an extended single-flue stack with a circular can.

The boundary walls and railings consist of a random rubble wall enclosing the garden to the east, and a cement-rendered and lined dwarf wall along the road, topped with decorative cast-iron railings and cast-iron gates.
