Description
The Vale of Leithen Social Club, located at 2 Leithen Crescent, is an earlier 19th-century building that has undergone alterations and an addition by George Donaldson McNiven in 1914, along with a later 20th-century extension. This former villa is two stories high and has a three-bay, rectangular plan with a piended roof. The exterior features later Arts and Crafts style bowed windows and a pitched-roof hall extension on the south gable. The building is rendered and includes raised painted stone quoins and window margins, as well as a first-floor cill band course.
The windows consist of 5-light bow timber windows with domed roofs and a large timber-mullioned tripartite box window on the hall gable, which has a bracketed overhanging canopy. A flat-roofed extension, added around 1975, incorporates earlier windows at the front of the hall. The villa is connected to a bridge parapet at the north gable.
The windows predominantly feature 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case designs, with triple 9-pane casements in the hall. The roof is covered with slate and includes cast-iron rooflights and zinc ridges, while the eaves have plain rendered stacks and cast-iron rainwater goods.
Inside, the building features angled cornices with fruit details, and the main hall is supported by three curved roof trusses on corbel-stops beneath a partially lowered ceiling.
