Description

Fishwick Mains Steading is possibly of late 18th century origin, with later additions and alterations. It features an irregular courtyard layout, consisting of a near L-plan two- and single-storey range to the north and west, which includes a cartshed and granary to the northwest. To the southwest, there is a near rectangular-plan group that incorporates a three-bay former cottage, various sheds, an open court, and an implement shed. The building is predominantly constructed from tooled pink sandstone rubble, with some squared and snecked sections, and has droved sandstone quoins and long and short surrounds to its openings.

On the north range's south (entrance) elevation, there is a two-storey, six-bay cartshed and granary to the left, featuring five segmental-arched openings offset to the right at ground level, and square-headed windows in all bays on the first floor. To the right, there is a two-storey, seven-bay range with a large sliding door at ground level on the outer left, a gabled hayloft opening breaking the eaves above, and a two-leaf boarded timber door offset to the left of centre. There are single windows in two bays to the left at ground level and another two-leaf boarded timber door on the outer right, with squat windows in six bays above. A single-storey range is attached to the right, featuring projecting M-gabled sheds on the outer right. The interior was not seen in 1999.

On the southwest group's west (entrance) elevation, there is a three-bay cottage on the outer left with a two-leaf boarded timber door at the centre and flanking bipartite windows. To the right, a slightly recessed three-bay range has a boarded timber door at the centre, a large opening on the outer left, and a single window on the outer right. The south (entrance) elevation features a three-bay range to the left with a large opening centred at ground level, a piended dormer above, a door opening on the outer left, and a large opening with sliding doors to the right. A piend-roofed shed is attached to the right, with a larger gabled shed beyond, which may have been a former open cattle court. The north (courtyard) elevation shows the former cottage on the outer right with a piend-roofed addition recessed to the left, an open court to the left with piend-roofed sheds beyond, and an implement shed on the outer left with five cast-iron columns dividing square-headed openings. The interiors were not seen in 1999.

The roofs are predominantly covered in grey slate, with a corrugated-iron roof on the large shed to the southeast.
