Description
No 37A in Foulden is possibly of 18th century origin, with alterations and additions made in the mid to later 19th century, and a 20th century dormer at the rear. This symmetrical, single-storey cottage with an attic forms the end of a terrace and has three bays. It is constructed of rubble sandstone with sandstone dressings and features brick-built dormers. The building has a corbelled brick eaves course, droved quoins, and later long and short surrounds to its openings.
On the southwest elevation, the entrance features a timber gothic panelled door at the center, topped by a timber-bracketed pentice canopy. There are bipartite windows flanking the door at ground level, and above, in the gabled dormers, are squat, round-arched windows aligned with the lower windows.
The southeast elevation is a blind gable end. The northeast elevation includes a door centered at ground level, with a single window offset to the left and another window to the right. Above, there is a 3-bay, tiled box dormer with single windows in each bay.
The front of the cottage has 6-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, while the rear features modern windows. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with red tiles, with stone-coped skews. A dentilled, brick-built apex stack is located on the southeast side, topped with a circular can.
The interior was not seen in 1999. In front of the cottage, there is a cobbled walkway made of horonised whin-chip, which forms part of a continuous stretch.
