Description
No 33, Foulden is possibly of 18th century origin, with alterations and additions made in the mid to later 19th century. This symmetrical, single-storey cottage with an attic has three bays and is part of a terrace. The exterior features harl-pointed rubble and brick-built dormers, with a corbelled brick eaves course and rendered long and short surrounds to the openings. The rear is constructed of rubble.
The southwest (entrance) elevation has a centrally located timber gothic panelled door at ground level, topped by a Tudor-arched, scroll-bracketed timber canopy. There are bipartite windows flanking the door at ground level, and small single windows in later brick catslide dormers on either side above the entrance.
The northeast (rear) elevation is irregularly fenestrated at ground level, with rooflights flanking the centre. The building has modern glazing throughout. The roof is covered with red tiles featuring fishscale banding at the front, while modern tiles are used at the rear. The roof has skews and a brick-built ridge stack to the northwest with a circular can.
The interior was not seen in 1999. In front of the cottage, there is a cobbled walkway made of horonised whin-chip, which forms part of a continuous stretch.
