Description
Number 2 is probably an early 19th-century building that has undergone later alterations. It is a three-storey, gabled block that features a shop on the ground floor and accommodation above. The shop front is made of glazed timber and includes large Dutch-style skewputts. To the left is a two-storey, two-bay section (Number 4) with a ridge roof. The building is constructed of squared red sandstone with raised painted ashlar margins for Number 2, while the side is rendered, and Number 4 is made of painted whinstone rubble.
The principal elevation showcases a shop front with a panelled plinth and pilasters, a dentilled cornice, and head consoles that extend to arched foliate capitals. There is a projecting ornamental ogee-roofed automaton clock from 1996 at the centre of the first floor. Additionally, there is a flagstaff and a gablehead pediment featuring a sculpted face in a key-blocked roundel. A timber oriel window from the 1990s is located on the side, along with modern dormers on Number 4.
The windows are timber sash-and-case with a four-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered in grey slate and features moulded skews, along with cast-iron rainwater goods.
