Description

47 Ladhope Vale is a later 19th-century property consisting of two interlinked buildings that once served as premises for a textile engineering supply company. The ground floor features a timber link, while the front elevation is constructed from sandstone ashlar, with rubble used for the sides and rear.

The northwest block was the former administrative section, designed as a two-storey building with a basement and an L-shaped plan. Its symmetrical front elevation includes a central door with a hood mould and a platt over the basement void. There are band courses at the ground, first floor, and eaves levels, with ashlar bands surrounding the windows. The roof is slated and piended, featuring ashlar wallhead stacks and large rooflights. The rear has modern infill, and the windows are a mix of plate glass and four-pane timber sash and case styles.

The southeast block functioned as a warehouse and is a three-storey building over a basement with a rectangular plan. Its symmetrical front elevation has a central doorway with a cornice, a band course at the first floor, and a raised blocking course. The windows have chamfered ashlar bands, and the roof is also slated and piended. The sides and rear have regular fenestration, though many windows have been blocked up, and new timber windows were added in 2005.

Inside, only simple interior details remain in the northwest block, while the southeast block retains its structure of timber floors supported by cast iron columns.

The property is enclosed by a rubble boundary wall at the front and northwest, with an ashlar dwarf wall at the front topped with cast iron railings.
