Description
2 and 4 West Port in Selkirk is a 2-storey, 3-bay terraced building designed by JP Alison and Hobkirk, dated 1935, with later alterations. The exterior features polished ashlar stone with rusticated ashlar on the outer left side at ground level. There is a moulded string course separating the ground and first floors, as well as an eaves course.
On the southeast elevation, the ground floor has a shop window in the center with a border-glazed upper light and a fascia above. Above this, there is a shallow canted window on the first floor. To the right, there is an inset door with a fanlight above, which has "1935" carved at the first floor. To the left, there is a panelled door with a border-glazed fanlight above, featuring "1835" carved at the first floor.
The northwest elevation was not seen in 1995 but has an extensive full-height projection. The building has modern glazing and a slate roof that is platformed at the apex, with overhanging eaves that are corbelled to the outer sides. There are platformed modern dormers on the outer bays and apex stacks. The interior was not seen in 1995.
