Description

29 Bank Street is an early 19th century, two-storey, three-bay former dwelling house that has later additions. It features a rectangular plan with a perpendicular range and a single-storey extension at the rear. To the right, there is a narrow later 19th century shop front, while the left side has a later 20th century shop front. At the rear, there is an early 20th century canted timber bay window on the first floor above the single-storey extension, which has a sloping corrugated-iron roof. The principal southwest elevation is constructed of painted whin rubble, with rough hewn whin quoins and margins, and a curved rubble corner detail at the rear. The gable is plain.

The building has plain timber sash and case windows in small openings on the first floor, cast-iron rooflights, and a slate roof. It features a coped sandstone end stack with clay cans, a short brick stack at the rear, zinc ridges, and cast iron rainwater goods.

Inside, there is a well-preserved original plain late-Georgian vernacular decorative scheme on the first and attic floors. This includes six-panel doors, boarded attic doors, cast-iron fireplaces, and a curved timber staircase leading to the attic, which has a double leaf timber door and a small cast-iron balustrade. There is also separate accommodation at the rear on the first floor, which includes a cast-iron and tiled fireplace in the former range.
