Description

Coldstream Parish Church was built in 1795 and rebuilt in 1906, designed by architect Dick Peddie. The church features a simple classical style with a basic rectangular plan that includes a projecting tower, chancel, offices, and porch. The west front showcases a projecting ashlar tower in four stages, flanked by two windows in the body of the church. The first stage has bold angle quoins and a west door, with round-headed and thermal windows above. The second stage is squat, while the third stage features Tuscan columns at the corners supporting a cornice and a clock on each face. The fourth stage is an early 19th-century octagonal turret with alternating blind and louvred arched openings and a facetted roof. The body of the church is constructed from snecked rubble with ashlar dressings and angle quoins, comprising five bays with round-headed lugged-architraved and keystoned windows, except for the south side which lacks architraves. Above the projecting square pilastered porch with ball finials is a circular window. The church has a cornice, eaves band, and die parapet, with the parapet rising to mimic shaped gables where it meets the tower. A large lunette is present in the east elevation over the lower block of meeting rooms and the vestry.

Inside, Tuscan columns on octagonal pedestals support arches that form groin vaults in the aisles and chancel, and a barrel vault in the nave. The east lunette features early 20th-century stained glass, along with three stained glass windows in the south aisle dated 1934 and 1951. The furnishings from the early 20th century are simple, with the exception of the minister's stall, which has an octagonal canopy in Jacobean style.
