Description

Swinton Bridge End is a house built in the earlier to mid 19th century, with later additions and alterations. It is a symmetrical, two-storey, three-bay structure featuring a single-storey and attic wing at the rear, creating an L-shaped plan. The exterior is made of squared and snecked tooled sandstone rubble, which has been repointed at the rear, with sandstone ashlar dressings. The building has droved quoins and droved long and short surrounds to its openings, along with projecting cills.

On the southeast (entrance) elevation, there is a deep-set timber panelled door at the centre of the ground floor, topped by a rectangular fanlight with crossed astragals and a plain, corniced door surround. A single window is located at the first floor, with additional single windows in both flanking bays on the ground and first floors.

The southwest (side) elevation features the original block with a single window at the ground in the outer right bay. The lower wing, which is recessed to the left, has a part-glazed boarded timber door in the right bay, accompanied by a four-pane fanlight.

The northwest (rear) elevation consists of a single-storey with an attic wing projecting to the outer left, which has a single window centred beneath the apex. The two-storey block is recessed to the right and includes a stair window to the left, with single windows at both floors in the outer right bay.

The northeast (side) elevation shows the original block with single windows at both floors in the right bay. The lower wing is slightly recessed to the right and has single windows at ground level in both bays.

The windows predominantly feature 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case style, with an 18-pane stair window and some four-pane windows on the sides. The roof is covered with grey slate and has raised stone skews, along with replacement rainwater goods. There are corniced brick apex stacks with various circular cans.

The interior was not seen in 1998.
