Description

Meigle Museum is a rectangular-plan, single-storey, gabled building that was originally a school room built in 1844 and is now used as a museum. The structure is made of squared red sandstone rubble with pinnings and features a base course. It has three large window openings on both the north and south sides, and two window openings on the east (rear) side. The windows have raised cills, and those on the south and east sides are topped with hoodmoulding.

The west elevation includes a central gabled porch with a Tudor-arched entrance on the south side, which has boarded timber doors. A later timber ramp provides access to the entrance. The windows are timber sash and case with a 6-over 6 glazing pattern. The roof is covered with grey slates and features large skylight windows, along with two gable chimney stacks that do not have cans. The building has shallow, ridged skews with flat ends and projecting mouldings beneath.

Surrounding the museum are rubble boundary walls to the north and south, and a coped boundary wall to the west that is topped with railings.
